Russell Kane will present Vidiots, a new panel show format involving viral clips.

Vidiots is described as "a battle of the wits and a battle of the clips, as we see two teams of comedians competing to present the best content from TV shows and online from around the world".

The blurb goes on to explain: "The teams will be given a series of categories in which to outwit, out-viral and out-funny each other, in their efforts to trump the opposing team's contribution."

The producers add: "Think Top Trumps but with funny clips."

A trial run-through of the format will take place at RADA Studios in London on the 24th April. To apply to be in the audience see our free tickets page

The early pilot will feature stand-up comedians Chris Ramsay and Iain Stirling amongst the panellists. The winner will be chosen via an audience vote - with the live audience using handheld control pads to indicate which clips they like the best.

The show is being produced by Avalon Television, the company behind format such as Harry Hill's TV Burp, Not Going Out, Russell Howard's Good News and Frank Skinner's new radio format, The Rest Is History.

This early run-through of Vidiots is not intended for broadcast, but will be used by executives to decide whether to take the idea any further.

Russell Kane has presented various TV and radio formats, most recently BBC Three's new talent showcase Live At The Electric. The latest run, Series 3, finished in February. There is no news yet on whether the BBC is planning to order a fourth series.

Vidiots will not be the first format to make use of internet videos. Viral Tap, a show in which teams look through viewers' videos and are challenged to create their own viral video, is due to start on ITV2 at the end of April.
