I wouldn't have thought of using a router, wouldn't a circular saw be better for a straight edge?

A router (pronounced ROWTER) give a better, straighter edge if done correctly.

Router has a straight edge, which needs to be pressed against a guide. I used a plastic-silver-coated bit of kitchen kick-plate which you can see in the photo above.

Its actually quite hard to get a perfect staight cut with a circular saw unless you set up the same sort of guide. I did earlier doors with a circular saw & the finish is not as good.

As I said previous to sootyj's "joke" - You're thinking of the English router, here we a talking about the American router..........you know, that country where they don't know how to pronounce words.

Anyway, circular saw would be too vicious for that sort of job and when I have done these in the past I used a jig-saw with a straight edge - very neat.

Don't take any notice of zooo's post, women always come unstuck when they try and enter the man's world of DIY :P

Yeah, we just tend to buy the right size door in the first place. ;)

Never mind love, I don't know much about washing, ironing and shopping. ;)

We just haven't told you about the shops that sell properly sized doors. All this DIY bollocks keeps you busy and out of the f**king way. :)

Laughing out loud Bless you, but not as funny as all the jokes we blokes tell down the pub every night. Now you just toddle off to the kitchen where you belong and get me dinner, and not worry your pretty little head about DIY.

And here's something that is more suited - two ickle fluffy kittens.....
