A router (pronounced ROWTER) give a better, straighter edge if done correctly.

Router has a straight edge, which needs to be pressed against a guide. I used a plastic-silver-coated bit of kitchen kick-plate which you can see in the photo above.

Its actually quite hard to get a perfect staight cut with a circular saw unless you set up the same sort of guide. I did earlier doors with a circular saw & the finish is not as good.

As I said previous to sootyj's "joke" - You're thinking of the English router, here we a talking about the American router..........you know, that country where they don't know how to pronounce words.

Anyway, circular saw would be too vicious for that sort of job and when I have done these in the past I used a jig-saw with a straight edge - very neat.

Don't take any notice of zooo's post, women always come unstuck when they try and enter the man's world of DIY

Yeah, we just tend to buy the right size door in the first place.
