Check if the help menu of you existing Firefox has an update option.

Alas it does rather seem that Asus have not kept up their initial good work on Linux & may not have kept up with adding upgrades to their own repository of 'pre-prepared' updates. so perhaps they have not done the latest firefox.

TAR files are compressed things like windows ZIP files. The actual update will be within it. I'm not sure what bz2 files are.

You could try the dreaded command line stuff.

CTRL+ALT+t
then in the command terminal that appears type
sudo apt-get update
when that has finished type
sudo apt-get install firefox

But I suspect it will just say you already have the latest (being the latest that ASUS prepared).

My 'update' tab is grey-out, and it seems I have to log on as an administrator to have the privileges to change that. I wonder how to log in in that way?

Unfortunately, it's too big a file for me to download. I've only got 4 GB & the download is almost 2GB.

Bluetooth software for Windows XP. Can't get BlueSoilioi whatever, can't figure out Windows Stacks thingie and can't find any alternatives.

However, it looks as if you are not going to get a Firefox later than version 2 for the original Linux of an eeePC because the Xandros people have not prepared any later versions.

So for greater versatility it might pay you to install Ubuntu 10.04 which has all the up-to-date stuff in it. It is possible to install it to a SHDC chip of 4GB or more inserted into the side socket, without clobbering the existing Xandros Linux. But note: Near the last step of installing Ubuntu 10.04 there is a review screen, which has an [advanced] button on it. Use that to ensure that the bootloader is installed onto the SHDC chip and not onto the main internal disk.

I did find that the built-in BlueTooth stuff in Windows was better than the stuff that came on an install disk with an adaptor, but I don't remember if that built-in stuff was in XP or only in later Windows.

I got the Windows bluetooth stuff working but couldn't do multiple transfers. So tried BlueSoliolilio and that was a bit quicker. Cheers anyway.

...meanwhile, on my main computer; I have a Seagate replica which I was led to believe "effortlessly and continuously stores up-to-date copies of everything on your PC, including the operating system, programs and settings - without you doing any of the work. Backing up doesn't get any easier etc etc "

Except now that I've had a new hard-drive put in, I can't locate any of my videos. They were in 'my videos' before, where should I be looking for them now?

Just thought I'd warn people who are looking to buy a Freeview box in the future. Make sure it's got the Freeview logo on.

I'm just using this as an excuse to rant really. I'm staying at my Dad's for the week and have been trying to record TV on his Freeview Recorder (Digifusion 200) I think. But the 7/14 Day TV Guide hasn't been working, so I've had to manually set recordings, which is not good (this is the future dammit). Being quite bored I'd thought I'd Google the problem. Turns out the company who broadcast the TV guide has gone bust O.O.B. How very stupid. So yes, a warning for future purchases. Make sure it is Freeview compliant.

Okay, you know those videos you see on You Tube. Where some clever computer boffin talks you though how to do something say on Photoshop and basically you see their screen and they talk over the top.

What software do they use to do it? Anyone know? I've downloaded something called Jing which is fantastic but only lets you do five minutes. Which is less than I need.

Um, on the Mac I have a thing called IShowU which captures the whole screen, and you have all the choices like following the mouse pointer ect. That's all I know of though.

I typed in IshowU for PC and it came up with a few programmes. I downloaded a free one and it looks good. I'll give it a blast. Thanks Lee.
