  • Extraordinary, Disney+'s first UK sitcom, is returning for a second series, with filming resuming later this month
  • The super-power sitcom, which launches on the streamer tomorrow, focuses on Jen, played by Máiréad Tyers, who lives in a world where everyone has a power except her
  • Tyers and co-stars Siobhán McSweeney, Luke Rollason and Robbie Gee will all be returning for the second series

Disney+ has ordered a second series of its first UK sitcom, the super-power series Extraordinary, before the first series has aired, British Comedy Guide can reveal.

Filming resumes later this month on Series 2 of the show, which debuts on the streaming platform tomorrow and stars Máiréad Tyers as Jen, who lives in a world where everyone has a power except her.

Co-stars Luke Rollason, Bilal Hasna and Sofia Oxenham will return as Jen's friends and flatmates Jizzlord, Kash and Carrie.

Also reprising their roles are Derry Girls' Siobhán McSweeney, who plays Jen's mum Mary, and The Real McCoy's Robbie Gee, as her stepdad, Ian.

Incredibly, given its lavish budget, Extraordinary is the debut screenplay of former stand-up and sketch comic Emma Moran, whose writing credits include Have I Got News For You, although none of her material for the topical BBC panel show ever made it to screen.

As recently as Saturday, Moran was coyly maintaining to Radio 4's Loose Ends that she hoped "we get other seasons [of Extraordinary] ... we've done a lot of world building, we've built this big, magical London, so it would be nice to see more of it. As long as humans have issue with other humans, there's space for the series to keep going."

On the same day, McSweeney told Graham Norton on his Virgin Radio show that Extraordinary's opening eight episodes conclude "on quite a big cliffhanger, there's definitely room for more. I feel like Emma's just warming up".

Directed by Toby MacDonald (The Duchess), Jennifer Sheridan (Lazy Susan) and Nadira Amrani (Mincemeat), Extraordinary is produced by Charles Dawson for Sid Gentle Films (Killing Eve). The executive producers are Sally Woodward Gentle, Lee Morris and Dawson for Sid Gentle and Johanna Devereaux, Disney+'s vice president of scripted content.

Extraordinary is one of three UK originals coming soon to the streaming giant, alongside the dark comedy Culprits, about the aftermath of a heist, where the crew have gone their separate ways but are being targeted by a killer one-by-one, and "swashbuckling adventure" series The Ballad Of Renegade Nell.
