I Literally Just Told You. Jimmy Carr

Jimmy Carr's comedy game show I Literally Just Told You has been recommissioned for an expanded third series, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal.

Ten episodes of the primetime Channel 4 quiz, in which contestants compete for a cash prize of up to £25,000 by answering questions written live as the show is being filmed, have been ordered. Filming begins in July.

The format was created by former Blue Peter presenter Richard Bacon, with a first series of seven episodes debuting in Decembe 2021, followed by another seven last autumn.

"I'm really excited it's back and for even more episodes than ever before," said Bacon. "We're going to make it louder and weirder. How do I know that? I Literally Just etc etc"

I Literally Just Told You's audience has grown with every series. A celebrity edition that aired at Christmas 2022, featuring Judi Love, David Walliams, Dermot O'Leary and Kerry Katona, attracted 1.2 million viewers.

The programme is produced by Expectation Entertainment (Alma's Not Normal, The Change) and was ordered for Channel 4 by commissioning editor for entertainment Steve Handley and Phil Harris, head of entertainment and events.

The series will be overseen by Ben Wicks, creative director of entertainment at Expectation with Bacon and Dom Wells-Martin executive producing.

"I Literally Just Told You is one of the most creative quizzes on TV, so we are delighted Jimmy will return to throw more mind-bending memory questions at the audience for the show's biggest run so far," said Handley.

Harris added: "Friday nights on Channel 4 are a real comedy entertainment destination so I'm delighted to bring our viewers more of Jimmy and Literally to take its place in our bold and innovative Friday night slate."

Carr is currently touring his Terribly Funny 2.0 stand-up show around Canada.

Application form to appear on I Literally Just Told You (deadline: 9pm, 14th July)
