In Episode 2, writer and editor Christian Sandino-Taylor was credited as Sardine-Taylor in his writing capacity. In eEisode 3 he was Sandino-Trailer, and in 4 and 5 he became Sandwich-Taylor. Episode 6 saw him credited as Christian Sardine-Trailer.

Shane Allen, Channel 4's head of comedy, extended the commission from 30-minute to 45-minute episodes during production, in order to bring more "light and shade" to the characters. He said: "It felt constrained as a 30-minute sitcom, with the focus inevitably falling on the brutal dean. The longer format gives more chance to tell a story and to bring the kind of warmth you saw in Green Wing."
