Rupert Bull Antiques is threatened when a rival antiques firm opens a branch in Newby-On-Wye; "Mumford & Sons", owned by the enigmatic Mr. Mumford and supported by celebrity corporate mouthpiece Pam St Clement.
How can an honest local tradesman compete with a multi-million pound antique dealership? Especially one whose staff are helpful and actually know what they're talking about? Rupert's answer is to challenge Mumford to a "chess-duel" (obviously), while Beverley, Toby and Faye try to save the shop - and Rupert - by more practical means.
