How Red Dwarf became classic comedy, wobbly sets & all

The classic sitcom has been enjoying a revival of sorts on the BBC: Still Open All Hours, a Keeping Up Appearances prequel, and now even a new series of Porridge (surely a crime in itself). Meanwhile, three million years into deep space - or as it's better known, the comedy channel Dave - Red Dwarf is re-launching for its 12th series. Unlike those other sitcoms though, Red Dwarf, which first aired in February 1988, has never really been away.

Red Dwarf: revisiting the fourth series

In the run-up to its twelfth series, which lands on Dave on 12th October, I'm rewatching Red Dwarf from the beginning. This week it's time to reach for the maple syrup, taramasalata, or (if it makes any difference) hummus in Red Dwarf IV.

When good TV goes bad: how Red Dwarf's star faded

With the departure of co-creator Rob Grant after series six, the show lurched into comedy-drama, navel-gazing and, eventually, utter smegging ineptitude.
