I created a woke monster, now I'm bringing her to life

For a long time, it was generally accepted that anyone who unironically used the word "woke" was a cretin. But over the past few years, hyper-zealous social justice activists have happily embraced the term as a form of self-identification. I'm talking here about those who rail against Toy Story 4 for its lack of diversity, blame Dad's Army for Brexit, and who think that air conditioning is sexist.

I went to war with PC police and gained 260K followers

'Militant vegan, radical intersectionalist poet' Titania McGrath has become a Twitter sensation for her right-on commentary and privilege-checking wisdom... Behind the mask, she is a white male comedian keen to take potshots at the po-faced.

Titania McGrath - Woke review

There will undoubtedly be concerns that the reading and disseminating of Titania McGrath's Woke will lead to radicalisation and extremism. As she warns us, "Let's not forget that Al-Qaeda started off as an improvisational sketch group." But what it will really achieve is to provide succour to those sickened of and silenced by the intolerance, hypocrisy and censoriousness of progressives. Woke is a delicious tonic for those weary of urban hipster group-think, but sturdy enough to take a stand in the culture wars. It will preach to the converted, for sure, but McGrath's laser-focused satire will demolish many a house of cards for those who haven't quite thought their way out of the stifling confines of radical leftism. If Woke does not prove their wake-up call, nothing will.

Titiana McGrath book review

But what's funny in tweets can get grinding over the length of a book, even one as concise as this, and the nagging whisper that gags at the expense of the more extreme utterances of the left are actually promoting a more unpleasant agenda of the reactionary right starts getting louder.
