Hit BBC Three sitcom People Just Do Nothing is to return for a fifth series, its creators have revealed.

The multi award-winning sitcom, which follows the characters operating pirate radio station Kurupt FM, has so far run for four series since its pilot in 2012. The last series - which saw the team hit rock bottom before bouncing back - aired in September 2017.

Chortle reports that pre-production is now under way on the next series.

Allan Mustafa (Grindah), Hugo Chegwin (Beats), Asim Chaudhry (Chabuddy G), Steve Stamp (Steves), Dan Sylvester (Decoy), Lily Brazier (Michelle), Marvin Jay Alvarez (Fantasy), Ruth Bratt (Roche) and George Keywood (Craig) are all expected to reprise their roles.

Executive producer Ash Atalla from production company Roughcut revealed the news at a masterclass event run by awards body BAFTA.

Writers and stars Allan Mustafa and Steve Stamp, who were also in attendance at the masterclass event, are currently planning the new episodes, revealing it takes about seven months to write a sereis.

Atalla told the audience in attendance: "The fifth series that we're doing at the moment, we were all in my office this morning with [executive producer Jon Petrie] and just talking through where we want to end the series and what we need to do to get there to make it mean something."

Series 5 is likely to be shown on BBC Three later this year, before being repeated on BBC One.

In November 2016, Atalla said in a newspaper interview that, after Series 4, the team were hoping to "make another series and then thinking about finishing our story with a film". It is not known if this is still the plan.

Since the show has become a hit, the stars have branched out in to performing live at festivals and gigs, and in November they released the music album Kurupt FM - The Lost Tape.

The BBC has yet to confirm the recommission itself, and further details about Series 5 are expected to be revealed in due course.

Coming soon to BBC Three is Wannabe, a sitcom about a popstar aiming to make a comeback, with Lily Brazier in the lead role.
