The People Vs. Bobby Mair

Bobby Mair is piloting a celebrity chat show for Channel 4, where he delegates asking questions to the public, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal.

In The People Vs, the London-based Canadian stand-up admits he has no idea how to be an interviewer and "hates talking to celebrities".

So in the show, which will air on Channel 4's social media channels, Mair takes to his local high street to persuade unsuspecting passers-by to ask the questions instead. Will he prove himself to be "the best interviewer in the game" and can the famous faces handle interrogation by the hoi polloi?

The pilot's launch date and celebrity guest have yet to be announced.

The People Vs is executive produced by Michelle Singer (Dine Hard With Rosie Jones) and Stu Richards (Jerk) for Rockerdale Studios (Bobby And Harriet Get Married) and was commissioned by Channel 4 digital commissioning editor Joe Churchill.

Mair released his stand-up special, Cockroach, on YouTube last month. Filmed at Monkey Barrel at this year's Edinburgh Fringe, its attracted almost 40,000 views at the time of writing.

He also appears in The Butternut Squash Gang In... Lapushka!, which has just won best comedy at the British Short Film Awards. Starring Maxine Peake and Giants' Barney Fishwick as crime-fighting children, the pastiche of Children's Film Foundation films of the 1970s and 1980s also features comedians Rob Carter, Tim Renkow and Sunil Patel.
