The Enid - Someone Shall Rise - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3sktYQEmmA

Great to see a nod to The Enid. I know Robert John Godfrey and Max Read from a band I was in during the 90s that recorded at their studio in Northampton. Robert mixed our first demo and Max did the second which we paid the going rate for but after that Robert let us have hours of free studio time and even set us challenges. One of them was we had to learn and record 4 led zep songs. Great times and amazing guys. I'll never forget when Robert cooked us all a sunday roast and I can never tell my mum this but it was the best I've ever had.

They just got back from a tour of Tokyo and I noticed earlier tonight that they are playing Gloucester Guildhall in July which is only 10 miles away so I'm planning on going to it and then saying hello to them afterwards. Hopefully I can get involved in any post-gig partying.

Very interesting post.

Many thanks for it. :)

What band were you in? (I'm nosey, like that!) :D

If you ever did a John Peel session, I bet Radish has heard of you. :D

I still haven't listened to "King Of Limbs" yet, even though I consider myself to be a fan, have all their other albums + Thom's "Eraser" and Atoms For Peace. Where did those five years go?

I never really dug TKOL, but have listened to it a couple more times in the last few days, and it's grown on me.

The new one, by the way, is very good.

Cool. I'll check it out + TKOL.

We were called Black Haze and were 15/16 when he thought we were going to rule the world as the next GNR :D We split up and went to university.

Did you release anything, or do any memorable gigs?

How about after? Join any other bands?

(I think I found some footage of BH playing a Stones song. If so, some nice guitar playing on there.) :D

Ah is that Wild Horses? The guitarists were really good who could just play anything. As we were still at school all of our school friends would come to gigs so when we played in a battle of the bands comp around 1995 the pubs would be packed. We got to the final and there were people standing on tables and chairs to watch us. That's my best memory :D

Best known track is Walk With Me which Robert mixed. It was part of 4 tracks we did for our first demo and everyone would sing along to it. Robert said he saw something in us and although he couldn't be our manager because he was busy with The Enid and his studio and other projects we could have free recording time which was very decent of him as it saved us a load of cash and showed he was more interested in helping musicians than lining his pocket.

A few weeks ago I uploaded a short clip from when we were at the studio when Max was at the mixing desk and some of us are even wearing our school uniforms. Max had posted a picture on facebook of him at the desk from around the same year so I uploaded it to post on his timeline for a larf but never did.

I've not seen so many bright colours since I last had a Wimpy Bar Knickerbocker Glory. :)
