Just thinking of good cameos from either comics/comedy actors or other well-known actors in sitcom. Some memorable ones for me are...

1) Leonard Rossiter in 'Steptoe & Son', in possibly my favourite episode.

2) John Cleese in 'Cheers'.

3) Phil Pope in 'O.F.A.H.'.

4) Jim Broadbent in both Blackadder appearances, but especially in 'The Queen Of Spain's Beard'.

5) Bernard Cribbins in 'Fawlty Towers'.

6) Reese Witherspoon in 'Friends' (showing just what a good comedy actress she is).

7) Steve Edge in 'Peep Show' (possibly his finest performance).

8) Matthew Holness in 'The Office'.

9) Omid Djalili in 'Black Books'.

10) Ken Campbell in 'In Sickness And In Health'.

Ken Campbell in 'Fawlty Towers'.

Patrick Stewart in 'Extras'.

I'd agree with both of those.

I'm sure there's loads I could think of but the first one that springs to mind is Philip Pope in Only Fools & Horses.

Just to point out, there is a distinct difference between a cameo and a guest appearance.

Some performances listed so far on here are the latter.

Just to point out, I don't care.

In the opening credits, Police Squad had different guests introduced as a 'special guest star' but they were killed in various ways during the introduction. They included William Shatner and Lorne 'Ben Cartwright' Green amongst others.

Also, Peter Serafinowicz as 'Tex' in Alan Partridge.

Philip Madoc and Alun Armstrong both put in memorable turns in Porridge, brief enough to be considered cameos.

Mark Gatiss & Kevin Eldon in "Spaced"

Yes, I think this is what's known as "a question of semantics". (The failed spin-off from BBC 1's 'A Question Of Sport', dropped because it was too complicated to score. Don't mean to criticise you for pointing out the 'cameo/guest appearance' argument though, I'm not anti-semantic myself.)

There were a few good Cameos/Guest appearances in Seinfeld.

Feel free to criticise me all you like, Tim. Everyone else does.

But this isn't a question of semantics, at all. There is a world of difference between a cameo and a guest appearance - and I think you probably know that. You just don't want to lose face on here by admitting I'm right.
