Anyway, I think this is a top site, well run, the guide is amazing and I enjoyed critique especially but I don't want to waste time on public forums anymore and so say Adios to y'all who I've enjoyed reading! There's a few genuinely funny people on here who've made me laugh. Good Luck to those pursuing a career in comedy, and Good Luck to those who aren't.

I did an NVQ 3 in about 3 days inbetween dicking about on the internet

and have since been told it is a more essential qualification in care

than

a degree in psychology#
a masters degree
a degree in nursing
a 2 year post grad in a specialised care field

it is such bullshit, it wastes so much resource that could go to people who want to learn but can't afford it

It just utterly devalues training and skills.

It's like the desire to learn for it's own sake or make the wolrd a better place is treated with utter contempt.

Calm down dear. I'm looking at it from the perspective of what a lot of brilliant material I'm gathering for the day when I do have the courage to get on stage. Or alternatively for leading a latter day Peasants' Revolt against the professional politicians.

But the thing I find totally depressing is not just the inflexibility of the system, it's the barriers to learning that are being put there. Education is being privatised before us but (unsurprisingly) most people are currently focused on what sort of shambles the NHS is about to reduced to. There will be no point in all these shiny new places of learning if people can't afford to go there.

A friend of mine is going another waste of time 'course', she volunteers at a charity shop 3 days a week, she is 50, why can't they just leave her alone?

Riley, I do understand your frustration, have you visited your local MP and made a fuss? I always do if I'm pissed off with Government.

And I thought volunteering at a charity shop was good? Last friend who did it then got a job working for a bank in the Middle East. Fortunately in one of the countries that hasn't experienced to much fun in the Arab spring. He's earning squillions.

Seems a waste of time and money.

Actually I can see the logic in it Nogget. (Probably because I've worked in the public sector for too long!) But if its a question of 'the interview' determining whether she keeps her job or not, they are probably providing the practice in case it's a while since people have interviewed and it's another way of showing that they are acting fairly as employer.

The privatisation isn't so bad.

It's the government meddling and bossiness that's insane. The pressure to force so many kids through degrees is of course going to dilute their value. Especially when part of the price for getting them there has been a diminuation on the emphasis on core skills.

At the same time in the vocational world. The braying nonsense of the training donkey is every one must have an NVQ. The most hated stupid pointless qualification ever.

One which manages to be simultaneously a beuracratic nightmare of paperwork to compete. At the same time as teaching absolutely nothing new.

Training budgets in my field that once might put some people through degrees or at least worthwhile specialist training. Are now gobbled up by mickey mouse pointless courses shoved on by various government bodies.

And as more money gets sucked into putting someone who's functionally illiterate by most none English speaking countries standards. Through a degree in media and unemployability studies at the Newversity of big grant on handout.
Or training yet another NVQ2 hairdresser who'll never pick up a pair of scissors.

Then the funding for the dinner lady who wanted to study Medieval poetry at night, or the cab driver who wanted to learn Jazz dance. Disapears.

We're living through 2 governments with a total contempt for the concept of learning and knowledge. Especially if it's for pleasure or because well you wanna know stuff cos it might make you a better person.
