In With The Flynns has been recommissioned for a second series, it has been confirmed.

Speaking on ITV1's Loose Women chat show today, star Will Mellor revealed that the sitcom had been recommissioned, and would be filmed in spring 2012. It is likely to be broadcast in the autumn.

In With The Flynns' first series was broadcast in June and July 2011, with average audience figures of 3.5million across the 6-episode run; a very respectable 17% audience share in the 8:30pm Wednesday timeslot.

The family sitcom was created by Americans Bill Martin and Mike Schiff, previously writers on series such as 3rd Rock From The Sun, and executive-produced by Caryn Mandabach, whose credits include Cybill, The Cosby Show, and That '70s Show.

Starring Mellor alongside Niky Wardley, Warren Clarke and Craig Parkinson, the series focuses on Manchester's young Flynn family, struggling to raise 3 children, tame a grandparent, manage a slightly wayward brother, and hold down jobs.

The BBC are believed to be searching for more big prime-time hit sitcoms following the final series of My Family earlier this year. BBC One boss Danny Cohen has publicly stated that he wishes to see more blue-collar, working class life depicted on the channel, and In With The Flynns is likely to go some way to fulfilling that call.

Will Mellor, best known for his role in Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps, also stars in BBC Three sitcom White Van Man. A second series of the show, created and written by Adrian Poynton, is expected to begin airing in February. An American adaptation is also in development.
