BBC One has confirmed The John Bishop Show.

Due to be broadcast on Saturday nights, the new eight-part series will see John Bishop introduce various comedians and musicians.

The BBC says: "Following the huge success of John's 2014 Christmas special, which attracted over 4.75 million viewers, making it the most watched stand-up show of 2014, The John Bishop Show will be a high energy prime time TV show. Each week John will welcome his favourite acts from all over the globe at one of the country's most famous stages, The Hackney Empire.

"Hand-picked and curated by John, the series will feature a range of other acts from up and coming faces, stunning music performances to the best UK and international acts around and will include the very best from the world of cabaret and variety. Each show will kick-off in spectacular style with a big opening stunt featuring John and his guests."

Hal Cruttenden, Jimeoin, James Acaster, Lee Nelson, Trevor Noah, Alex Edelman, Chris Ramsey, Doc Brown and Tanyalee Davis are amongst the comedians who will appear on the show. Meanwhile acts such as Leona Lewis, Florence and the Machine, The Vaccines, Courteeners, Striking Matches and James Bay will provide the music.

Speaking about the news, John Bishop says: "I am really excited to bring this eight part series to BBC One. I am hoping the people at home will do as I would do if I was watching it and argue with their teenage kids about what was the best bit."

Mark Linsey from the BBC adds: "It's fantastic news that The John Bishop Show is coming to BBC One on Saturday nights. John is one of the finest and most loved comedians in the country and we are so pleased to have him hosting a show that introduces such an exciting mix of brilliant new and established talent to the channel."

The series will be recorded at The Hackney Empire from 13th May. To apply to be in the audience see our free tickets page
