Outsiders is returning for a third series on Dave, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal.

David Mitchell will once again host the challenge show in which comedians compete to show they have the skills to survive in a post-apocalyptic society.

Six more hour-long episodes have been ordered, to air later this year.

"How brilliant that David Mitchell's Outsiders is coming back for a third series and that I get the chance to put more comedians through their survival paces" Mitchell told BCG. "I can't wait to see them flail around in the outdoors in a way that is both hilarious to watch and carries within it the darker truth that, should society collapse, most of us are in for long, agonising deaths. Plus, there'll be lovely cut-away shots of wildlife which you don't get in any other panel show."

The comedians competing in the third series have yet to be revealed. Previous participants have included Kerry Godliman, Jessica Hynes, Ed Gamble, Lou Sanders, Phil Wang, Jessica Knappett, Joe Wilkinson, Maisie Adam, Darren Harriott, Jamali Maddix, Fatiha El-Ghorri and Toussaint Douglass.

The programme was titled Outsiders for its first two series, but will now be known as David Mitchell's Outsiders. The episodes to date have been watched by 4.2 million people on Dave and UKTV Play.

The show was commissioned for UKTV by Hilary Rosen, UKTV's director of commissioning, and Mark Iddon, senior commissioning editor, and ordered by Cherie Cunningham, Dave channel director.

A co-production between Wall to Wall and That Mitchell and Webb Company, the executive producers are Leanne Klein and Victoria Payne.
