Derry Girls has won the Best Comedy title at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards.

The Channel 4 comedy was picked out by the guild's voters ahead of fellow nominees Big Boys, Man Vs Bee and Motherland.

This is the second time Derry Girls has won the award, having previously picked up the title in 2019.

Meanwhile Lisa McGee, who created the hit sitcom in 2018, took home this year's Best Writer trophy.

The BPG Television, Streaming & Audio Awards - for work commissioned or produced in the UK and screened in 2022 - are prized by programme-makers because they are chosen independently by TV and audio correspondents, critics and previewers.

The 49th annual BPG Awards lunch took place today at Royal Horseguards Hotel in London.

Elsewhere in the awards results, This Is Going To Hurt actors Ben Whishaw and Ambika Mod were recognised in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories.

Big Boys writer Jack Rooke was named as this year's recipient of the BPG Breakthrough Talent Award.

Other winners at the ceremony included The Traitors, which took the Best Entertainment title by a wide margin of votes. The full list of winners across all genres can be seen on broadcastingpressguild.org.

Grant Tucker, the chair of the BPG, said: "Our winners always reflect the vast amount of talent in British television and the prizes are going to both programmes and individuals who were extremely popular with our audiences last year."
