Have I Got News For You appears to be the first British panel show format to successfully transfer to America as a long-running show since Whose Line Is It Anyway?. The US version of the topical news format has just been renewed for a third series.

CNN has confirmed another run for this autumn with host Roy Wood Jr and team captains Amber Ruffin and Michael Ian Black set to return again. The third series will premiere on the network on Saturday 6th September at 9pm ET/PT.

CNN will also expand its Have I Got News For You brand with a new multiplatform approach, including a companion CNN Podcast that will launch this summer.

Talking about the renewal, the stars joke in a joint statement: "Now that we know that none of us will be Pope, we proudly announce our return for Season 3 of Have I Got News For You this fall."

CNN executive Amy Entelis says: "Have I Got News For You continues to serve as a humorous reprieve for audiences on Saturday nights without ever losing its bite. The continued success of our Saturday primetime lineup shows that topical entertainment programming is resonating with CNN viewers."

The programme is made by Hat Trick Productions, the same company that makes the British version. Executive producer Jimmy Mulville comments: "We're pleased and proud that CNN have asked us to come back and find what's funny in the news on Saturdays this Fall."
