Gold to air Dad's Army animations
Gold is to broadcast five animated editions of Dad's Army, created using archive audio recordings of original - and now sadly lost - early television episodes.
Airing in November under the banner Dad's Army: The Animations, they comprise three regular episodes and two Christmas shorts, the latter of which will be shown back-to-back as one broadcast.
The episodes are:
The Loneliness Of The Long-Distance Walker (Series 2, Episode 3)
Private Walker is called up into the army and Captain Mainwaring does all he can to appeal the decision.
Under Fire (Series 2, Episode 6)
The platoon arrest a supposed Nazi agent, on charges of signalling to enemy air-craft.
A Stripe For Frazer (Series 2, Episode 5)
Private Frazer receives an ill-advised promotion to Lance Corporal.
The Animated Christmas Special
In these two shorts (from Christmas Days 1968 and 1970 respectively), Captain Mainwaring drills his platoon in physical fitness and assembles a choir to entertain the troops.
Of all five animations, only A Stripe For Frazer has been seen on television before.
Created by the RTS Award-winning animation team behind Doctor Who: The Lost Adventures, the animations give audiences a chance to enjoy five original episodes of the TV series.
All three full-length programmes were previously remade by Gold in 2019's Dad's Army - The Lost Episodes, and with the original cast for radio in 1974.
It is these radio adaptations that the first two episodes are based upon: newly re-edited mixes of each programme, together with newly recorded material based on the original television scripts.

Dad's Army - The Lost Episodes
From the original scripts - including David Croft's original camera directions - come three lost Dad's Army episodes, remade with a new cast.
One of Britain's favourite sitcoms, Dad's Army ran for eighty episodes over nearly ten years and is rarely far from our screens - but three episodes (all from Series 2) were lost many years ago in cost-saving archive purges and haven't been seen since 1969. Now, using Jimmy Perry and David Croft's original scripts, those three episodes have been faithfully recreated for Gold to mark the 50th anniversary of their original broadcast.
Kevin McNally leads as Captain Mainwaring, with Robert Bathurst as Sergeant Wilson, Kevin Eldon as Lance Corporal Jones, David Hayman as Private Frazer, Mathew Horne as Private Walker, Timothy West as Private Godfrey and Tom Rosenthal as Private Pike.
The episodes are Series 2: Episode 3, The Loneliness Of The Long-Distance Walker; Episode 5, A Stripe For Frazer; and Episode 6, Under Fire.
