Blackadder coming to Blu-ray
- Iconic 80s sitcom Blackadder is being released on Blu-ray
- Starring Rowan Atkinson with Tony Robinson, the four series have been remastered in HD
- Surviving film material has been rescanned in high definition, and a box set is available now
Blackadder is coming to Blu-ray next month.
All original BBC television episodes of the celebrated historical sitcom have been remastered, cleaned and restored, with surviving film elements rescanned in high definition and standard definition elements carefully upscaled.
The seven disc box set is available to order now, ahead of release on 27th November.
Restored and released to mark the iconic comedy's 40th anniversary this year, the set includes all four TV series in full, the 1988 specials Blackadder's Christmas Carol and The Cavalier Years, as well as 25th anniversary documentary Blackadder Rides Again.
Sadly, the set does not appear to include either the pilot episode, which was seen publicly for the first time as part of a Gold documentary earlier in the summer, nor the Millennium Dome special Blackadder: Back & Forth, produced by Tiger Aspect in conjunction with Sky.
Final details of the set have yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to run for more than 1,250 minutes.
Blackadder's Historical Record, a deluxe vinyl set of the soundtracks for the four regular series, was released earlier this year in a limited edition.

Housed in a leather-look rigid box with lift-off lid are a 12" frameable print portrait of Baldrick (each copy individually signed by Sir Tony Robinson), a colour illustrated booklet detailing cast, transmission and production credits (with sleeve notes from Sir Tony Robinson), and 12 opulent, gold colour 140g vinyl discs housed inside a dozen splendidly era-inspired inner sleeves.
From The Black Adder and Blackadder II to Blackadder The Third and Blackadder Goes Forth, this is one of British TV's best-loved sitcoms, which propelled its stars and writers on to become household names. Written by Richard Curtis & Rowan Atkinson (Series 1) and Richard Curtis & Ben Elton (Series 2-4) the episodes star Rowan Atkinson as the eponymous anti-hero, with Tony Robinson as his hapless manservant Baldrick. A star-studded supporting cast includes Tim McInnerny, Miranda Richardson, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, with guest appearances by Rik Mayall, Miriam Margolyes, Brian Blessed, Tom Baker and many, many more. (Cunning plan not included.)
