  • The book will be an "entertaining compendium of surviving artefacts and documents relating to the ghosts of Button House's past lives"
  • The creators, who will sign books at events in the run up to Christmas, say: "We're delighted to finally be bringing this idea to life"

The stars of BBC sitcom Ghosts are to publish a companion book in October.

Ghosts: The Button House Archives is described as "a hilarious, colourful and entertaining compendium of surviving artefacts and documents relating to the ghosts of Button House's past lives."

It was announced in March the hit comedy was to conclude after the forthcoming fifth series. The new episodes, expected to air on BBC One from September, will see the characters of Alison and Mike exploring other means of making ends meet and "contemplate a new chapter that could have a huge effect on the Ghosts' (after) lives".

The Button House Archives will be published by Bloombury on 26th October, tying in with the end of the comedy.

The Bookseller reports that the material for the book has been written by creators Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond.

Additionally, the plan is for the stars to sign books "at events around the country in the run-up to Christmas".

The creators say: "We started kicking around the idea of a Ghosts companion book quite early on in the life of the series and got very excited about how the characters could show up in all kinds of documents and artefacts. We're delighted to finally be bringing this idea to life with Bloomsbury to produce something we hope fans will treasure."

Publisher Katy Follain ads: "To be working with this hugely talented group of writers on the tie-in book of such a massively popular comedy series is complete heaven. It combines everything I want the non-fiction Bloomsbury General list to be: quality and best-in-show entertainment with broad appeal. It is the perfect Christmas gift and I'm looking forward to seeing the fans dressed up in their favourite Ghosts costumes for the events."

Ghosts: The Button House Archives will be available to pre-order soon.

Ghosts: The Button House Archives

By Mathew Baynton, Ben Willbond, Simon Farnaby, Jim Howick, Martha Howe-Douglas and Laurence Rickard

The comic companion to the BBC sitcom Ghosts, perfect for all the family.

Everybody leaves a trace. The ghosts of Button House may have been dead a long time - some of them a very long time - but they have all left their mark on the world (even if, in Robin's case, that mark is just a handprint on the wall of a cave).

Gathered together in this volume is a treasure trove of unearthed cuttings, original records and rare artefacts that explore the unseen lives of those who died at Button House: from Thomas's love letters to Pat's 'Summer Camp Rap', and from Julian's campaign promises to Lady Button's Rules of Etiquette. There are even documents dictated to the one person who can see and hear the ghosts: Alison Cooper.

Written by the show's creators - Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond - this eclectic archive is a unique chance to discover more about the beloved ghosts of Button House. Thank be to Moonah!

A book for all the family, it is as warm-spirited and deliriously daft as the series itself.
