BCG Pro has joined with leading production company Expectation to launch its latest competition for writers of TV comedy.

Open exclusively to BCG Pro members, the 10-Page Call Out contest seeks the opening pages of new narrative scripts, aiming to identify both new ideas and writing talent.

The submission window is now open, closing on Monday 30th September. The best entries will be read by Expectation's top team, with their favourites receiving detailed feedback and the potential of further development.

BCG Pro is the service of British Comedy Guide aimed at comedy creatives, offering a range of educational material, opportunities, career tools and serves. Expectation was formed in 2017 and its slate of award-winning programming includes Alma's Not Normal, Intelligence, The Change, Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable and The Lateish Show With Mo Gilligan.

The competition is open to writers of all levels of experience, with studio audience sitcoms, single camera comedies and comedy drama scripts equally welcome.

The producers are happy to accept script on any theme. They say: "What we care about is the content: we want to see great characters, great stories, and, of course, great jokes."

Nerys Evans, Expectation's creative director of scripted programming, says: "Aim to be original and, above all, funny. Don't try to base your script on anything that already exists or try to write in the style of another writer; just aim to find your own writing style and be brave. Think what makes these characters funny and why the audience will want to spend time with them. The first ten pages of a script are key, so try to hit the ground running with the jokes rather than all the set up. Also, don't second guess what you think we want, write what you find funny."
