Jen Brister returns to Edinburgh with a brand new show and this time it's all about politics. OK, that's not strictly true, Jen wants to be more politically active, she wants to take a stand for the things she believes in! But she also wants to go to the garden centre. Can she fit it all in or is that just Wishful Thinking? 'This is as near perfect stand up as I have seen' ***** (ScotsGay). 'Blisteringly funny' **** (List). 'Brister possesses a magnetic personality' **** (Edinburgh Evening News).

10 of the funniest Fringe comedians on Twitter (Link expired)

Given that most tweets are normal people trying to be funny, Twitter would seem like the perfect medium for Fringe comedians too. But how to cram those carefully crafted witticisms and 10-minute routines into 140 characters? We run through ten comedians appearing at the Fringe who manage to do just that...

My Edinburgh festival nightmare: comedians Fringe Hell

So you're taking a show to the Edinburgh fringe. What's the worst that could happen? Vomiting, fainting, break-ups and malfunctioning smoke machines ... Felicity Ward, Josie Long and WitTank start off our series of comedians' horror stories.

The Jen Brister three minute interview

In 2006 Jen Brister took her first one woman stand-up show, 'Me My Mum and I' up to the bright lights of the Edinburgh Fringe. It went quite well and she's been back there almost every year since. She performs live regularly across the world, she has worked with the likes of Russell Brand. She talks to Martin Walker from Melbourne, Australia.

Edinburgh regular Jen Brister returns to the Fringe with Wishful Thinking, a show all about politics. Well, sort of.

Like many of us, caring Jen wants to be more politically active. She's socio-culturally aware, has a radar for injustice and wants to put this world to rights. Unfortunately, poor old Jen also wants to go to IKEA and, sad as this may be, there simply isn't time to do both. Wishful Thinking explores Brister's ability to allow herself to be lured by life's petty and pointless distractions - DIY, pilates, relationships and so-on - and how these temptations all interfere with her calling to take a stand for the things she truly believes in. After all, we'd all be at that rally to save Primary Health Care Units if we didn't have pilates on a Tuesday night, right?

After performing in front of the legendary Spike Milligan and receiving the luminous and prestigious title of having "a great pair of Bristols", Jen Brister knew that comedy was the way forward. So with the help of two jokes and a push up bra she was on her way...

Since that heady day Jen has performed stand-up in clubs all over the world, as well as presenting for BBC 6 Music, writing for BBC Scotland and starring in Russell Brand and Trevor Lock's Cloud Cuckoo Land (Radio 2). A regular at the Edinburgh Fringe, her shows Me, My Mum & I, Reception, Jen Brister Is British(ish) and Now & Then have earned critical acclaim and led to international success - notably so in Australia. As an actor, Jen performed in Trevor Lock's The One And The Many.
