The Young Ones Page 15

Just because something was acceptable forty years ago when "The Young Ones" was made, doesn't mean that it is acceptable now. Someone always has to make a call.

Ghostbusters?

The Young Ones was when I bust my comedy cherry. I loved Laurel and Hardy but they're universal... Then Monty Python, but I didn't know much... The Young Ones was the first show that really grabbed me.

Watched the first episode of The Young Ones again. There was a brief mention of Morecambe and Wise, and I had an immediate thought of, well Eric Morecambe had long since been gone by this time. But ... of course no, both still with us in 1982.

It's just impossible to think this was 40 years ago.

Or, in other words, one fourth of a century.

The one that really gets me with that first season of The Young Ones is the episode with Buddy Holly. When Mike finds him trapped in the loft room, my first though was "yes, he's quite well preserved, considering" but then Holly was only 22 when he died, and would have only been 45 by 1982.

This year, he would have turned EIGHTY SIX. Wow.

Maths not your strong point.

When spoken to...

Blimus! I just read the news article here about the forthcoming Blu-Ray, The Young Ones - The Complete Collection. (40th Anniversay Edition).

Released on 28th November. All episodes apparently uncut, and looks like there's bloody loads of extras. Sounds very promising.

It's jam-flipping-packed!

We'll have a further feature or two around the release date - the other bits I can't fully share yet make it even more mouth-watering.

Ah! Otway!

About f**king time.

It'd be fascinating if they dug out the American pilot, Oh No - Not Them. I know it'd be beyond awful, but I'm curious. Not gay. https://youtu.be/FBfe3yzWBIU

I thought you weren't a fan?

I thought you weren't a fan?

Not particularly. Still interested in its development and history though.

Yes. It's possible to be interested in something and not like it. Or like it and not be interested in it. Or like it and be interested in it. Or not like it and not be interested in it.

excellent news/

Don't wanna clog this thread up with links to other sites but this is, in the words of William Shakespeare, f**king awesome: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2022/nov/12/the-young-ones-40-years-lise-mayer-nigel-planer-alexei-sayle-chrisopher-ryan-interview
