Following the death of their father, a stipulation in his will sees estranged middle-aged siblings Nellie and Eli Pledge forced back together after 15 years to continue the running of the family firm: Pledge's Purer Pickles.
Neither are particularly happy with the prospect Eli would like to sell his share and move on with a gorgeous dolly bird, whilst Nellie - similarly single - doesn't feel she needs any assistance at all.
Eli, however, has a plan up his sleeve. If he can marry Nellie off, there may just be a way out of his father's 5-year sentence and he can settle down for some fun with busty blonde girlfriend Freda. And during the annual works' week break in Blackpool, a chance meeting with old chum Vernon Smallpiece, also in the pickling trade, could provide him with just the man he needs...
