The Professor Tinkle character (Frankie Howerd) was originally written for Kenneth Williams. He was busy writing his own BBC series, The Kenneth Williams Show.
Jim Dale was originally offered the role of Jungle Boy, but declined as he felt the role wasn't good enough.
Bernard Bresslaw learned the real African tribal dialect Ndebele for his role.
