The Wrong Door is a new comedy sketch show on BBC3. I had seen the promos and decided it wasn't for me. You know, the ones with the girl walking through the park talking to her boyfriend who just happens to be a dinosaur called Phillip? So thank you Broadcast for asking me to watch the first episode for this review.

It was really very funny, with a hit rate for me of about 90%. What sets the show apart from others is its very clever use of CGI. From the huge robot crashing through London to the brilliant 'beer fairies' who must obviously truly exist, each sketch felt fresh and original and the cast of actors worked well to make the daftness feel completely normal.

Comedy sketch shows are a peculiar breed, relying on the law of averages: let's keep chucking content at our audience in the hope we'll get more laughs than not. BBC3's The Wrong Door is such a format.

So, in keeping with that law, there were certainly moments when I sat stony faced in front of the TV but, I have to confess, these were few and far between. While the first couple of sketches in episode one didn't have me rolling about laughing, I soon found myself being won over by what The Wrong Door had to offer - actually this show is really good.

Sure, there are a few duff moments but it's more than redeemed by some comic genius. The dinosaur boyfriend is brilliant in its simplicity and so well pulled off. The mix of animation and live action is also excellent and makes the show feel fresh, delivering gags that normally wouldn't work.
