Most people who work in television are only in it for the money, but there are a few noble types who are driven by love of the medium. Director (and co-writer) Peter Richardson is an example of the latter, so inspired by the idea of Stella Street that he shot the whole thing before it had even been commissioned, and BBC2's controller Mark Thompson should be congratulated for scheduling this nightly oasis of energising comedy throughout Christmas and beyond.
