Two Doors Down has been promoted to BBC One for its seventh series.

Six more episodes about the residents of Latimer Crescent have been ordered, with filming resuming this summer and the series set to air later in the year.

The recent Christmas special, which pre-empted the move to BBC One, attracted 2.8million viewers, the show's biggest audience since its launch in 2013.

Of Two Doors Down's switch from BBC Two, co-creators Gregor Sharp and Simon Carlyle said: "We're excited to be spreading our wings and lowering the tone as we introduce BBC One audiences to life in Latimer Crescent."

Stars Elaine C. Smith and Joy McAvoy have already hinted that they will return for further episodes. But the BBC have yet to disclose which other cast members will join them. Alex Norton, Arabella Weir and Jonathan Watson have been perennials since the original pilot in 2013, with Smith and Jamie Quinn also everpresent since the sitcom was picked up for series in 2016.

Siobhan Redmond joined the sixth series following the departure of Doon Mackichan, while Kieran Hodgson and Graeme 'Grado' Stevely are also expected to return.

A BBC Studios production (Here We Go, Trying), Two Doors Down is executive produced by Steven Canny and Josh Cole. Seb Barwell is the commissioning editor for the BBC.

"We couldn't be more proud of the success story that is Two Doors Down" said Canny and Cole. "It's an absolute joy to work on and loved by a large loyal fanbase that have embraced these families and neighbours as though their own over the years! We can't wait to get going on series seven and look forward to the move to BBC One."

Jon Petrie, director of comedy commissioning at the BBC, added: "Two Doors Down continues on its understated march towards classic BBC sitcom status with the last series pulling in some of its highest viewing figures to date. We're delighted to be doing more and are excited to see the show move to BBC One for a whole new legion of fans to enjoy."

All existing episodes of Two Doors Down are currently available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
