Gogglebox producers to make new BBC Two comedy show

The producers of hit Channel 4 show Gogglebox are making a new topical comedy format for BBC Two.

Common Sense is described as a show featuring "a weekly round-up of the week's most talked-about topics and newsworthy events, bought to life by some of the funniest people in Britain".

The topical comedy news show will "showcase real people and their real opinions on the week's topical talking points whilst in conversation with one another in everyday situations - whether at work, on a tea break or relaxing down the pub".

Gogglebox is famous for showcasing highlights from the past fortnight's television through the eyes of the public, with cameras mounted in the homes of selected couples and families, to capture their reactions as they watch the latest films, documentaries, comedies and dramas. It has already spawned a spin-off on its home station, Gogglesprogs, featuring children.

The BBC explain of the new programme: "Whether it's general events from the news or the latest in politics or current happenings in the worlds of sport and popular culture, Common Sense will bring genuine and immediate reactions that collectively highlight the nation's hilarious and unfiltered take on the biggest talking points that week.

"Contributors will talk about any news story, from any news source. Everything from newspapers, radio, magazines, websites and social media threads will be discussed, lampooned and ridiculed."

The series was announced by at the Edinburgh Television Festival by Patrick Holland, Channel Editor of BBC Two. It was commissioned by Shane Allen and Alex Moody.
