Wallace & Gromit to contend with crazed robot gnome in next film
The upcoming Wallace & Gromit film focuses on a robot gnome that goes haywire, it has been confirmed.
Aardman's latest claymation adventure is expected to be screened by the BBC and Netflix at Christmas. And the animation studio's co-founder Peter Lord told Radio 4's Loose Ends that Nick Park (pictured), the iconic duo's creator and "a complete genius", had another "funny, funny idea" that they were currently shooting.
"Of course, it's set in Wallaceland, wherever that is, somewhere oop north, and there's beautiful industrial buildings and miles of terraces and canals and all kinds of stuff," he explained to host Clive Anderson. "And Wallace has gone completely bonkers, making machines for every conceivable purpose and he invents a robotic gnome, which is kind of perfect. A garden gnome but robotic."
Elsewhere in the interview, Lord revealed an idea that the studio ultimately rejected for last year's Chicken Run sequel, Dawn Of The Nugget, released 23 years after the original. However, he said it might yet return as the plot for a future instalment.
"We toyed with an idea for a long time whereby Mrs Tweedy stopped farming chickens and started farming alligators to make handbags," he said. "That might be the sequel. Give me another 24 years and we'll do that one."
