Nathan who? Fans of Howard Overman's Bafta-winning grungy superhero series were nervous about the departure of actor Robert Sheehan, whose potty-mouthed character was last seen, in an online mini-episode, banged up in Las Vegas.

But they needn't fret. Joseph Gilgun as Rudy, a rude and crude lad with a literal split personality, will fit in just fine. In fact he's a real breath of fresh air, cheeky but conflicted, with an intriguing link to the gang, who, lest we forget, have all now chosen to change their powers.

It takes the whole of the skilfully plotted and frequently hilarious first episode of the third series to find out what Kelly, Simon, Curtis and Alisha can now do, but it doesn't take long for some of these new skills to come in handy, when they're faced with a young woman who can freeze time - to no-one's advantage but her own.

Sex, death and filthy humour... it doesn't get any better than this.

Chuck co-creator developing US Misfits remake

It's been on the cards for years now, but things seem to be moving forward on the likelihood of a US remake of E4's superhero drama Misfits. Vulture have reported that Chuck co-creator Josh Schwartz is developing an American version of the BAFTA-winning show (with the help of its British creator Howard Overman), for his production company Fake Empire.

As most of you will know, Misfits star Robert Sheehan decided to quit the show last series, so rather than recast his character (by giving Nathan the ability to change his appearance, perhaps?), or waiting until series 3 to explain Nathan's absence as an event that happened between episodes, writer Howard Overman managed to put together an eight-minute webisode to explain Nathan's departure...

In a comedy based on Douglas Adams's novels, Stephen Mangan stars as detective Dirk Gently, whose investigative technique is based on "an unswerving belief in the fundamental interconnectedness of all things". Happily, the switchback script here, by Howard Overman (Misfits), has a kind of pointedly whimsical quality that's pure Adams. Although there are moments when Mangan's energy overwhelms the rest of the cast, you suspect Gently's creator would approve.

A series about a group of young offenders with special powers might sound silly. And certainly elements of this critically acclaimed comedy-drama are preposterous. But Howard Overman's script is deliciously dark, and the sassy young cast expertly combine comedy and pathos. The second series comes to Channel 4 tonight, having previously been shown on E4. Following a tip-off, the gang returns to Nathan's grave.

Douglas Adams's fictional detective has already been portrayed on Radio 4 in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency and now in an adaptation by Howard Overman makes an amusingly inventive, if small-scale, transition to TV. Stephen Mangan plays the shambling, penniless sleuth who believes in the "fundamental interconnectedness of things" and possesses an unerring knack of stumbling to the right conclusion. In tonight's case, he is exercised by a lost cat, a missing inventor and an exploding warehouse. Events bring him into contact with two former university friends, the gullible MacDuff (Darren Boyd) and his girlfriend Susan (Helen Baxendale).
