10 memorable bits from The IT Crowd

When I read that Channel 4's The IT Crowd debuted ten years ago this week, I thought, "Great! This will be a fun and easy topic to write about." As a dedicated fan of this slightly surreal, smart and sometimes slapsticky sitcom, I wouldn't need to do any research. In fact, I could talk about Jen Barber (Katherine Parkinson), Maurice Moss (Richard Ayoade) and Roy Trenneman (Chris O'Dowd), the staffers of Reynholm Industries' subterranean IT department, ad nauseam. Easy peasy, right? Not at all!

Judging by the opener of this 1991-set third series, Chris O'Dowd's generally endearing sitcom seems to be leaning heavily on its retrospective premise for its jokes. As young Martin visits his uncle in Dublin, where he sells encyclopedias with a hefty dose of dramatic irony ("the greatest information resource the world will ever see"), parents Debra and Liam go away to celebrate their anniversary, only to bump into the latter's youth-obsessed old flame. Cue confusion over newfangled things such as yoga and raving.

Moone Boy - Series 3

Warm, funny and full of charm. That's the best way I can describe Moone Boy, a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age comedy set in the small Irish town of Boyle in 1989.

Written by Chris O'Dowd (The IT Crowd) and Nick Vincent Murphy, Moone Boy launched on Sky 1 in September 2012, won an IFTA, an International Emmy and returns this week for a third series.
