Only Fools And Horses, once voted Britain's favourite sitcom, is being lined up for a live stage musical adaptation.

According to the Daily Mail, planning is under way for the show to open at London's prestigious Theatre Royal, Haymarket, in February or March 2019.

The sitcom's creator and sole writer, John Sullivan, died in April 2011. According to reports, he had previously developed ideas for a live Only Fools And Horses stage show that never came to fruition.

Now his son, Jim (pictured as a child, centre), has teamed up with comedian Paul Whitehouse to create the new musical based on the beloved TV show.

Jim previously wrote a number of episodes of mid-2000s OFAH spin-off sitcom The Green Green Grass, and together with brother Dan, compiled a 2014 Sport Relief sketch that saw Del Boy and Rodney meet footballer David Beckham. The short special episode was pieced together with discarded dialogue and scenes from their father's original scripts for the series.

Famously, John Sullivan wrote - and sang - the iconic theme tune for the series, as well as a song used in the much-loved Jolly Boys' Outing special. It is not known if he penned any other songs related to the series or its characters, but if any exist it is likely they would be worked into the new production.

Further details about the musical, currently in development with prolific TV and stage producers Phil McIntyre Entertainments, are being kept tightly under wraps. However, it is known that original TV stars Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst will not appear in the show.

Having attended a development workshop, an unnamed theatre executive is quoted by the Mail as saying: "It was classy, and a lot of fun. Someone said they're going to have a Reliant Regal Supervan drive on stage, but I wasn't sure if they were serious or not."

With no contracts believed to have been signed as yet, if development continues on the project then full details and booking information is likely to be revealed later in the Summer.
