The Light Programme was a BBC radio station that broadcast mainstream light entertainment and music from 1945 until 1967, when a shake-up of the BBC's radio services lead to the station's duties being taken up by Radio 1 and Radio 2. It was responsible for a number of now-famous BBC series, including The Navy Lark, The Clitheroe Kid and, most notably, Hancock's Half Hour.
