'Britain's greatest anti-comedian' (Guardian) offers an hour of moderately amusing comedy in order to gain some television exposure (touch wood). Aczel reveals amongst other things his backstage demands, his comedy do's and don'ts and his penchant for ad-libbing. Aczel is planning on improvising a bit with varying levels of success. 'Aczel turns unprofessionalism into an artform' (Times), ***** (Time Out, National Student, Hairline), **** (Times, Herald, Metro, Express, Three Weeks, List, Fest Mag).

Things to do in Edinburgh when you're Ed

Sublimely shambolic, brow-beaten "anti-comic" Edward Aczel rarely seems to be having a good time. His 2011 Fringe show claims he doesn't even exist. Time to cheer him up, reckons Stevie Martin.

Is Edward Aczel the least funny standup in Edinburgh?

'Most people conclude it's Looney Tunes time when Ed's around," says Edward Aczel halfway through his show. Spoken by any other comic, that would sound entirely credible. But spoken by Aczel, it's ridiculous - because Aczel is (after a fashion) the least funny comic on the fringe.

The brand new show from "Britain's greatest anti-comedian" (The Guardian),
Edward Aczel has had a busy year since his last outing at the Fringe. No, he hasn't given up his day job but he has spent a lot of time preparing for his inevitable and forthcoming trajectory into comedy showbiz stardom.

Acknowledging that he has a reputation for unprofessionalism and unpreparedness, Ed has thought ahead for his brand new show and imagined a life of TV panel shows, lavish riders, comedy masterclass leadership and commercial product endorsements.

He imagines that in the future, comedy impresarios are more than pleased to meet his backstage demands of boxes of kittens and staple guns; Wannabe stand-ups scramble to attend his masterclasses that reveal the secrets of his stunning mic technique; and TV executives fall over themselves to commission his series about a time travelling ACAS mediator. He also foresees that all this success could be ruined should he allow 'The Aczel Brand' to be intoxicated by undertaking inappropriate product endorsements (just for the money).

Yes, the man who "turns unprofessionalism into an artform" (The Times) offers up a reassuring shambolic romp through his unlikely future. Are you going to say it? Or do I have to? "Don't give up the day job, Ed".

Edward Aczel, 44, is performing on the Fringe for the fifth consecutive year in 2011. He is a Malcolm Hardee Award Winner and BBC Comedy Award Runner Up. He's had two sell-out runs at London's Soho Theatre and appeared on several Radio Four shows. He tours the UK ahead of a third Soho Theatre run this Autumn.
