Who are the best sitcom writers of all time?

You can post a Top 5, 10, 15 or 20.

I have a feeling that when the lists are taken in combination we will discover that almost every great British sitcom has been written by one of just 20 writers or writing partnerships although I could be wrong!

David Croft, Jeremy Lloyd and Jimmy Perry.

Next question?

Graham Linehan, Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, Eric Chappell.

John Cleese, Connie Booth, Grant/Naylor, David Renwick, Clement and La Frenais, Mayall/Edmondson..

It annoys me that they always say "of all time". Best sitcom writers, that's enough.

I wonder what Larbey and Muir or Palin and Booth would have been like?

I mean really David Angell, David Lee and Peter Casey should be included for Frasier, any of The Simpsons writing staff in seasons 3 to 11, and Roy Clarke, if only for the place he holds in the history of the form.

All of the above and David Nobbs.

I'm really going for British writers on this thread what I started.

Here are some of mine in no particular order:

Galton and Simpson

Perhaps we've learned humility?
