Gotten?

That's usually a clue. Crap English.

"Gotten" is olde English, now almost out of use except as part of "forgotten".

There are a lot of Bitcoin buy invitations going around on email at present.

While this is not exactly a scam it would be a very risky investment and the invites are fairly obviously of the "penny shares" variety, if they can persuade enough people to buy it will raise the price and therefore raise the value of their own holdings. But at some stage it will crash.

Sorry Bill. Of course I forgot that you probably spoke olde English when you were young.

I've received an email supposedly from HMRC regarding a Tax Refund Notice.

Then they write "Center".

Bloody hell. If you want to con people at least give it a bit of thought.

This is a first: I just received a poorly worded email that essentially says that I've been targeted for murder on the dark web. The mysterious benefactor says that for $1200 they'll spare me and kill the hitman instead.

Certain people (or a certain person) on this forum may be responsible for engaging the hitman?

Can you trace the IP of the sender? Mate of mine got a few those and found they were coming from a university in China.

It comes back to a Russian company. It's probably either a spam factory or they've hacked someone's account to send spam.

I've just had an attempted blackmail! it's the second one in a week though slightly different. They were very long but the substance was that (First one) they'd planted something in my computer and had a video of me masturbating at the computer which they'd release if I didn't stump up the cash. Second one (today), they put something on my computer which had shown porn videos I was watching and also videoed me watching them. Needless to say, both are a load of rubbish. However the alarming thing today was that it started with 'I know your password' then gave a password. I hunted through a large notebook and finally found the password - I had used it briefly, possible near enough 15 years ago (Bill when we were on Pam's site) for an avatar site which I only needed once. Does this mean somebody has accessed that site and found people's email addresses and passwords for that site? Both emails are very long and I skim read them before reporting them as phishing but the bottom line was a threat and money.

Has anybody else had this sort of thing?
