Just listened to a Les Paul triple compilation album almost in its entirety.

Dated yes but incredibly skilful guitar playing. I remember my dad telling me about his Hawaiian guitar style and I always thought it was a whining guitar.

Indeed. I always feel that the last big thing is the most dated, whatever that happens to be. The freshest is often anything before a person's living memory. That can be appreciated without all the baggage of how it was considered at the time. I haven't long been of this opinion. Consequently, there's still a lot to explore.
