You don't know what gets to me, Ellie. I'm an enigma wrapped in a mystery shrouded in puzzle! ;)

I know I get to you... me and all my sexual shizzle.

Well the last bunch of avowed secularists were rather unpleasant.

Stalin, Mao etc. And I don't know how well our society is holding up.

OMG you're right! If we abolish faith schools and the Lords Spiritual, millions could die!!!1

:O :$ Lovey

No I mean that religion is an integral part of our psyche. Even if we're avowedly secular.

You can't just yank it out as something will fill the vacumn often less pleasant.

Faith schools aren't such a problem. It's their power, funding and independence that's the issue.

Tell that to the Northern Irish.

Possibly. The US has an ostensibly secular society, and yet they have some of the nuttiest religious loons on the planet.

Don't confuse secularism with atheism.

No, you shouldn't.

I didn't. I thought you were. If you weren't, fair enough.

Those US nutters are way closer to a right wing political movement masquerading as a faith group.

Yes. They also challenge the very notion that their country should be secular. Scary people.

Stalin, Mao

They had the 'cult of leader', which required worship of the faithful much like any other religion.

I've heard Dawkins et al make that comparison before, but I don't really buy it. They were just psychopaths. There's no real need to make them into quasi-popes.
