Desert Island Sitcoms Page 2

Fawlty Towers? This is for life! You've got to go for quantity as well as quality; think it through!

I've been watching FTrs most years for three decades and never got tired of it! A classic 2nd series episode possibly has more going on in it than a whole series of My Family or something similar, so quality does equal quantity in a way, it just packs it all in.

Intersting idea OR, as I probably wouldn't just take my top 5. I'd want a mix of styles so I'd take
Fawlty Towers
Some Mothers Do Ave Em
The Good Life
Only Fools And Horses
The Big Bang Theory

Dad's Army seemed an obvious choice at first but the BBC have been playing it in their own desert island sitcom slot for the last hundred years so I'll leave that at home.

Friends
Only Fools and Horses
Red Dwarf
The Office (US version)
30 Rock

That last selection was hard as so many contenders so is purely for most funny episodes (Arrested Development would probably have nicked it if it had more seasons, if only for Gob...), but the first four are definites.

Dan

Only Fools and Horses
Fawlty Towers
Frasier
Steptoe and Son
Blackadder Goes Forth

Curb Your Enthusiasm
The Larry Sanders Show
The Simpsons
The Office(USA)
Hancock's Half Hour

The Simpsons
The Office (American)
Seinfeld
Malcolm in the Middle
Frasier

Close contenders:

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Arrested Development
Community
Futurama
Frasier
Venture Brothers

This was actually far harder than I thought it would be.

1) Only Fools and Horses
2) The Royle Family (all 3 series including specials)
3) Birds of a Feather
4) Friends
5) I can't choose between Spaced and Goodnight Sweetheart. Spaced would probably win though.

With Friends and GS I went for the quantity angle.

You'd want shows with loads of episodes if it's for life; so:

Seinfeld
Frasier
Friends
Cheers
Malcolm In The Middle

That would be a f**king nightmare.

How about :-

The IT Crowd
Black Books
The Likely Lads (inc WHTTLL)
Father Ted
The League of Gentlemen

Going for quality rather than quantity:

Porridge
Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads
Hancock's Half Hour
Father Ted
Red Dwarf

Going for quality rather than quantity:

Good idea, give you more time to count the coconuts and make yourself more trousers made of leaves.

1. Porridge
2. Modern Family
3. Father Ted
4. Malcolm In The Middle
5. Curb

I have seen the other classics so many times.

Going for quality rather than quantity:

Hancock's Half Hour

Given that I said and/or radio, you could claim the lot and have well over a hundred shows to go at !

But when would I get the chance to count all those coconuts or to finish stitching together my pandanus frond breeches?

'Get us a drink Sid. 'ave one yourself.'

So who set this impossible task?

Oh, me. So I suppose I should have a go at mine.

All opinions expressed are mine, all mine.

1. Hancock (Radio and TV)

- The Master. I've heard/seen them so many times but never tire of them.

2. Open All Hours

- Got to have some Ronnie and as I don't particularly care for Porridge, it has to be this one.

3. Yes Minister/Prime Minister

- Wordplay at its finest

4. The Royle Family

- Me/Jim, Jim/Me I so know what he goes through !

5. In Sickness and in Health

- If for nothing else then the first appearance of Winston and the classic Patricia Hayes and Irene Handl

'Is he the doctor?'

E&OE. All Rights Reserved !.

The Simpsons (but I wouldn't be too disappointed if all the discs past Series 10 got cast out to sea)
Dinnerladies
Frasier
Royle Family
The American Office
