Life's Too Short Page 49

People give Gervais stick, but in terms of giving quality work to those with 'differening abilities', he's come up spades. The Office - girl in a wheelchair, Extras - girl with cerebral palsy and LTS - dwarf dude. Plus he's worked loads with Ash Attala, who is leg mental but not head mental.

All we need to do is get a couple of black guys (or "coons" as post-modern, post-ironic, post-funny comic geniuses might prefer to say) to black up and we can have the Black and White Minstrel Show back on. It'll be ratings gold, I tell you.

Except you can't. Every cop show goes out if its way to have middle aged white muggers instead of young black dudes. So black actors don't get any work and sometimes ironically get involved in real crime.

Reverse racism is still racism. Though I don't know why you're equating black people with the handicapped?

Seems like a very patronising view.

How do you link RC flagging up something positive, like G & M's shows giving large roles to people with Cerebal palsy, or to dwarves, to something negative like bringing back The Black & White Minstrel Show?

Blimey, never thought of it like that.

it's a shitcom...

Having just read the above, I'm presuming Ricky is once again using his well-worn tools of irony and mock egotism?

Laughing out loud I can't get beyond "desperate, fame-hungry monsters who will do anything just to be on the telly". The man truly is a comedy genius! :D

Terrifyingly, I think he's serious. But sheesh, what a tool.

I can barely walk down my street without getting attacked by a frustrated, failing black actor.

What part of 'sometimes' do you not understand?

Tonight on my radio show I did a feature on a charity event in Peterborough for Arthritis Reseach. In the video there's a bit of Warwick Davies (who lives nearby) who reprises his Life's Too Short persona...

I've hardly read of the posts but it's taken me 10 minutes of clicking to get this far, so I assume that Wilde was right about people NOT talking about you being worse than people talking about you.
Anyway, I liked most of it especially the modern dwarf inspired slapstick such as Warwick pulling the table cloth off and climbing the bookshelves plus dwarves being fired from cannons and being used as 10-pin bowling balls. And chucking the new fridge away in the beautiful countryside was a great idea and having to use the catflap to get into his own house and subtly taking the piss from the legal porfession as personified by the smart-arse divorce lawyer whose sexual misconduct with Warwick's ex-wife-to-be was established by the slippers - Inspector Cluzo would've missed it, so well done Warwick!
I can't wait to watch the repeats so I can laugh at what I missed first time round because not only am I easily pleased but I'm also slow-witted.

Looks like America haven't gone for it either.

Oops.

His next thing with Karl looks interesting. He should brush this one under the carpet and get on with that.
