Terry Gilliam was turned down for Harry Potter, and hated it
The Harry Potter movies are some of the most beloved films ever to hit the big screen. However, not everyone is a fan of the cinematic Wizarding World, and filmmaker Terry Gilliam, who was originally up to direct the first movie in the franchise, hasn't been shy about dishing out criticism.

Ricky Gervais: SuperNature review - Gervais's laziest special yet
Ricky Gervais knows exactly which buttons to press, but his overreliance on old material and played-out angles makes his latest special uncharacteristically tedious.

Ricky Gervais's anti-trans special proves Netflix is on no-one's side but its own
Gervais's schtick is as predictable as it gets - and serves as further proof to an audience that Netflix has approached with simpering, condescending appeals that the streamer is not on anyone's side but its own.
Daniel D'Addario, Variety, 24th May 2022
I watched the new Ricky Gervais stand-up special so you don't have to
Gervais is truly off-putting in SuperNature, a detestable combination of smug and obtuse. Only two of his bits are any good - one about a platypus, and a touching one about how Gervais and his male relatives and friends express affection. Both of these are too little too late, though. His retirement can't come soon enough.
Clare Martin, Paste Magazine, 24th May 2022
The curious difference in reception between Ricky Gervais & Dave Chappelle
Perhaps it's due to Gervais being able to hide behind the convenient excuse of his lifelong brand of being intentionally offensive - or perhaps it's because we've already been through it once recently - but there doesn't seem to be equal energy towards Gervais's jokes, which are arguably even more offensive than Chappelle's.
Melanie Weir, Enstars, 24th May 2022
Stream it or skip it - Ricky Gervais: SuperNature
SKIP IT. Gervais warned us with his introduction to the stage as "a man who really doesn't need to do this". And he was right. He didn't need to do this hour. And you don't need to watch it, either.
Sean L. McCarthy, Decider, 24th May 2022
State Of The Union review
At first, this marriage drama about a couple in therapy feels so contrived it's hard to get through. But outstanding performances turn it into something far more endearing.

Like Ricky Gervais's comedy, Netflix's transphobia is getting old
You can just say you're a transphobe, Ricky Gervais. And Netflix, just say you're okay with anti-LGBTQ content on your platform.

From Gervais to Chappelle, Netflix has a trans-bashing comedy problem
The First Amendment only protects individuals from government censorship. It does not stop private entertainment companies from not distributing your unfunny comedy specials or other private citizens from criticising (or avoiding) them.

It's impossible to overstate how awful Gervais' violently transphobic special is
Shame on Netflix for giving this level of hate a platform and what was likely an enormous payday for Gervais. Even worse, the company has already ordered more of the same.
