It turns out the theme tunes on television are actually played live every night - here's the footage as the TV theme tune band prepare for The News At 10 going on air.

This video features Dream Themes, who describe themselves as "nearly the best British TV theme tribute band".

Dream Themes started life as the backing band for Mancunian papier-mache-headed legend Frank Sidebottom. While Frank did the raffle at his shows, the band would play the theme to Terry & June. One thing led to another. Now they play weddings, sold-out London shows and have been booked to play Camp Bestival this summer.

They are now releasing their debut single. Ostensibly a double-A side ("although as it's a digital-only release that's pretty meaningless") it features their versions of the theme to ITN's News At Ten (24 seconds) and the BBC Ten O'Clock News (19 seconds). The press release for the release states: "These 42 seconds of entertainment will set you back £1.58 on iTunes, working out at 3.76 pence per second. Bargain."
