Mrs Brown's Boys has now jumped from being a hit TV show into a box office chart topper via the film Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie. A animated series is also in development and two spin-off projects are currently being considered. The BBC has now revealed another plan for the character too.

Executives are reportedly looking into the possibility of a Mrs Brown chat show, in which creator Brendan O'Carroll interviews guests in the guise of his outspoken Irish housewife character.

A BBC source told The Mirror that commissioners were keen to "get the wheels in motion" on the project following the success of movie and TV series. The sitcom, which is due to return at Christmas for more specials, regularly attracts more than 11 million viewers.

The paper quotes the source as saying: "Agnes Brown is irreverent, outspoken and incredibly nosey - perfect qualities for a chat-show host."

The format has similarities with Caroline Aherne's popular 1990s programme, The Mrs Merton Show. The mock talk show, in which Aherne dressed up as elderly no-nonsense host Mrs Merton, ran for 5 series between 1995 and 1998.

The source, talking about the Mrs Brown idea, said: "The hope is it would be very much in line with The Mrs Merton Show, which was a huge hit. Things are at an early stage but senior staff are hopeful this can happen. It's a fantastic idea and seems like a near-certain hit on paper."

It was announced last week that Mrs Brown's Boys would undertake another nationwide arena tour in 2015. Tickets are now on sale for How Now Mrs Brown Cow.

Brendan O'Carroll recently turned down an offer from US network HBO to recreate the series for an American audience, citing that he did not want to spend long periods away from his family.
