Victor Lewis-Smith on Wild West

Farm animals have been Disneyfied for decades by television and now the people who inhabit the British countryside are being Dibleyfied. First came the detestable Vicar of Dibley, portraying country dwellers as harmless simpletons for the amusement of sophisticated city folk, and now we've had BBC1's Wild West depicting them as nothing more than a bunch of parochial inbred cretins, and dishonest cretins at that.

Victor Lewis-Smith, Evening Standard, 4th December 2002
