Having kids around the home places new pressures on a relationship, as Adam and Jessica Savage well know. Their life has been turned upside down since the arrival of Nicola and Luke, but it becomes even more complicated when Adam's mother leaves her husband after 34 years of marriage.

Dad Donald is therefore like another child in the attention he needs, as Adam tries to fix him up as an eligible single man, arranging dates with Maria, the waitress at their favourite Italian restaurant, and teaching him how to cook. Of little help is Mark, Adam's sales rep brother.

Jessica finds temporary escape in her job as a travel agent, but it's not so easy for Adam as a cartoonist who works at home.
