Amazon is reportedly planning a UK version of LOL: Last One Laughing, the TV format in which comedians must try to make each other laugh.

The premise sees ten comedians put together in a studio. During this time, they must try to make their opponents laugh in any way and by any means, while not reacting at their opponents' attempts to make them break. At the first laugh, the competitor is cautioned (yellow carded), while a second eliminates the player from the game (red carded).

The format started in Japan in 2016, and has since been localised in Mexico, Australia, Italy, Iran, Germany, Russia, Spain, France, India, Brazil, Canada, Albania, Sweden, Netherlands, Argentia, Turkey, Poland, Nigeria and Colombia. An Irish version - hosted by Graham Norton (pictured) - launches next year, and Trevor Noah is due to front a South African version.

Deadline reports: "The streamer has been scoping out indies [independent production companies] to produce the UK version over the past few weeks via an informal tender process, with that process now in its final stages. The show is yet to be greenlit and we understand no final decision will be made until the format launches next year in Ireland."

It adds: "Were the UK version to be greenlit, it would air next year at the earliest, following the Irish version, which will feature big local stars including Aisling Bea and Jason Byrne and is the streamer's first original in that nation."

Below is a trailer for the Canadian version hosted by Jay Baruchel, which featured comedians including Mae Martin, Tom Green and Whose Line Is It Anyway? star Colin Mochrie.
