Comedy writer and actor Tom Basden has created a new sitcom for Channel 4 called Rick And Peter.

The pilot is set to star T4 presenter Rick Edwards (pictured) alongside Peter Mitchell, a wheelchair-bound actor who has previously starred in Channel 4's groundbreaking comedy drama Cast Offs. The duo will play themselves, with the plot revolving around what happens when Edwards makes a major presenting gaffe on live TV, and thus is sent to receive a crash course in political correctness from Mitchell.

Miles Jupp (Rev), Joe Wilkinson (Him & Her) and Nadine Marshall (The Smoking Room) are also due to appear in the pilot, with cameos from Just A Minute host Nicholas Parsons and outspoken food critic Giles Coren.

Executive Producer Jamie Campbell from Eleven Film told Broadcast Magazine: "Tom Basden has delivered an A-grade script, and the performances from Rick Edwards and Peter Mitchell - supported by Miles Jupp, Joe Wilkinson and Nadine Marshall - are all we hoped for."

Channel 4's Nerys Evans added: "We're thrilled to be working with Rick and Peter on such a great idea and it's brilliant to see that Rick's a natural comedian - not just a great presenter."

Tom Basden, who is part of sketch group Cowards, has previously appeared in comedies including The Armstrong & Miller Show and Star Stories. Meanwhile his writing credits include Radio 4 sitcom Party, and BBC Three pilot Brave Young Men.
